Traditionally I do not have Rank, being that I have been appointed as Youshiki Shodai Soke', meaning that I am first Generation founder and may appoint or grade below me anyone to any rank up to 10th Dan if I so please. But I dont think I will live that long to see anyone be graded by me to such a rank.

In regards to those in our membership or high dan board otherwise known to most of us as " Shinsa Iin Kai " ... I would like to make a brief comment on the members which are placed on our website. We ask that ALL our membership and friends con- duct themselves with HONOR and that you remember that we are Role Models which must teach our deciplines to all students.

"Those which have been chosen which are few... are chosen on their many years of ded-ication to the arts and what they have given to their community both martial arts and non martial artists."

We cannot "Police up" the bad apples, but leave that to each individual to always ! remember that WE as Senior martial artist must keep the correct and true role as we have promised to ourselves,  I do not condone those who stray from what I believe in and stand for. Always remember that Honor is foremost and money is last, Honor will not be bought. I have seen many through-out my years, who for reasons of their own have chosen the wrong path. I can only pray for them and ask those others to keep strong and teach from the heart and as I have and always will.. teach those who want to trully learn, if they cannot afford your fees, do as I do.. teach from the heart, I do not make my living from fees, but from my retirement and will not teach those who have the funds to BUY their ranking or status. [ paper collectors ] to some its a bus- iness and a way to commercialize the art and the more credentials the easier to bring in the would be students.

Remember there are but a few of us, who feel and teach as we do, but its enough.. we honour those before us, our teachers and those before them, the TRUE and only meaning of Budo, stay true to our arts one day you will be rewarded as many others have, to see the beauty of a "Good" student, is enough for me.

As I have told my closest of friends... I place my fees high so that it discourages those who can afford my teachings, but only because I will only teach those who in ernest want my teachings., you cannot offer me enough to teach those who wish to learn for the wrong reason, or wish to offer ranking to me in exchange for my certi- ficates with my signature. My Shomeisho are issued by our High Dan Board and all must go through "MAT testing" ....

If you make the grade you will be awarded your Shomeisho, we do not receive monies for each Grade, but simply for the Certificate and Belt ! We do not need or require that you pay $800.00 or $1000.00 for 8th Dan, we simply ask that you pay for the Certificate and belt issued. Our High Dan Board meets once a year, that is when we issue ranking. ONCE per year...... and no exceptions you must perform before me and my Board and follow our guidelines for ranks, time in service, time in grade... much as the military does, before a board !

EXAMPLE: "if you are 28 years of age and wish to be listed or promoted as Kyoshi or 7th maybe 8th Dan... You first must be over the age of 40  to be considered for 7th and in your 50's for 8th Dan ! 9th Dan 60's and Judan 60's and 70's.. 

Over 25 years in the arts for 6th and 30 years in the arts for 7th Dan, the rest you may email or call in we will be most happy to give this information to your teacher or sensei.

ALL those wishing to test for 6th and above must go before the board and with approval of immediate teacher.   

If you are 7th or 8th Dan and wish to promote your student to one rank beneath you... if he is to be promoted to 6th RokuDan... you must request that he go before the High Dan Board and Ranking or Testing may be carried out at our Annual., this is "Standard" as is in Kyoto.

Card- "Service Connected" unless you display "Veteran Disabled" plates..in my case I gave those up when they sent me new plates for this year, I thought I would get new Veteran Disabled Plates for my Jeep but did not ! so beware you may be charged as I have full rates, even though I can not walk over 25 feet without stopping for lack of air being that I am supposed to use my Oxygen tank and stop due to pain in my legs, which requires pain pills 3x daily ! plus schrapnel in my back due to mortar and a few other little problems that we have due to our combat tour in Nam.

 Tanaka's 2009 Summer Annual  

This years Annual will be in the Summer due to everyone having busy schedule and so that all of our staff (HIGH DAN BOARD) can make plan and adjustments to their plans for the summer.

I hope to have my two Students with their many students and parents along with the public in   the area with camera's so that everyone can ...  take those much wanted shots for their memo  rabilia album !

I know I always look foward to our Yearly, lately  due to my health I have not been able to have-  our Annual, but this year I will have my friend of  many years Harold Brosious help me with the boring road.

PROMOTION 

Sometimes goes to the right person, that is due and has earned his knocks and knowledge, but there are those who have bought their way into rank-ing.. it is all about making money or attracting students.

I never did care about rank back in the 60s or 70s, to me its fine if you call me Mr Cantu or sir. You see, I wasnt born a black belt or martial artist., I was born a man who earned his even wh en a young man, some brag about vietnam when in fact they never set foot on the soil itself I can tell you from fact that it wasnt easy counting on tomorrow to get here? it was scarry to even sleep at nights for fear that no sooner you sleep and incoming would start all over again.

Yea, and I also remember the hot days out there in the fields when a kid, cause all my frien ds had to go out there and help their families... I was lucky I  didnt but I went to be  with my friend now those people are acquaint-ences thats all.. times change even people change.

I earned mine, and that I can always say, no one gave me a thing, if its free without sweat or the knocks that come with it, how will you know what it will be like in the real fight? I have had a few in L.A., Houston, RGV due to being a bounc as some call it, some call it security, but in real ity you just throw people around, even better if the are drunk., makes the job easier.

Yes I do know what works and what does not...do you? if you dont, then maybe you have or had the wrong choice in teachers, a real one would let you take the beating and shed a little blood in the Dojo, so that you dont loose all of it in the streets, and maybe become a fatality..

Jujutsu is considered the "Mother" of all Japanese Arts, and should be instruct-ed or taught as a Science and an Art., being the correct method.
