TANAKA is a "TRADITIONAL" Japanese organization which supports those in the Japanese martial arts. We encourage those in TRAD-ITIONAL Japanese martial arts to call or write to us if you are interested in Japanese martial arts., the very name should say it all. We have the finest in teachings and have as our Lead teacher in the arts from the DNBK in UK, Hanshi Allan Tattersall of the Jujutsu and Iaido teachings.
We encourage all to attend our seminars which are taught strictly by Tattersall Hanshi of UK, he will have his assistants to help in teach-ing all in the Seminar and allow for a one-on-one in Jujutsu and all Iaido class's. WE ARE NOT a mixed martial arts, nor do we support any other arts or forms other than JAPANESE martial arts. Although I (Hanshi Cantu) have ranking in Korean and Japanese arts, I have chosen to have this website dedicated strictly to those wishing to following the JAPANESE mart ial arts and its path to enrichment in the arts or Budo.
This does not take away in any shape or form from the other Korean and Chinese or Thai martial arts to include Brazilian Arts and the various other arts which may or may not exist in todays known martial arts around the globe., We respect the many other forms, but honour our Japanese martial artist by having this organization which focuses primarily on JAPANESE martial arts.
I also wish to thank personally by entering into this website with this remark to those who have no- minated me and my students for the various Hall of Fames, at this time. myself and my students, members, we will pay strict attention to learning and teaching of our past teachings in the arts for the time being. My personal Thanks also goes out to an old Karateka from the past and present... Shihan GARY ALEXANDER, 10th Dan...who I admire as I would: Norris, Wall, Harrison, Wren, Garcia, Yu, Mike Stone, Mullens, Havanis the Greek ! and so many many others that I have NEVER had the pleasure of meeting even Al Francis from Texas ! I would teach across the street from someone who I saw come up with the very best in TKD (JoseSantaMaria) Jose up to this date and his brother Bobby are what I call THE premier teachers along with Minshew sensei, and so many GREATS of TExas...people who have made history in the MA here in Texas and those of you in the USA such as an ICON of mine Jim Harrison (bloody) jim harrison who fought as we all did, with nothing but "Ace Bandages" for gloves and footgear ! no mouth piece, we were later called labeled as HEAD HUNTERS by many who were not as we were, we loved to get on the mat and kick it around those were some days!!!...too bad.. those days arent still here. There are many who arent from our era who just wish they were the Bad Boys that we at one time were, and now only age makes us THE Grandmasters of the USA who trully earned theirs. After promoting Moses Williams, it was told to me...that Jose told Moses; Man everybody started before I did ! ha,ha...JOSE is and always will be the few I can count on one hand as a true PIONEER and the Calibre which only many would like to be! God Bless Jose and his wife for doing so very much for the MA ARTS in this world!
TO those of you who dont know the JOSE that I have mentioned, we used to teach in Killeen many years ago, he taught TKD under An Ye Mo...and I taught another style ( I was with the ATA, 4th Dan) but later went back to Okinawan and Japanese which I still teach up to today. He went on to produce many many excellent world class practicioners and I still feel that few can rank alongside him (JOSE) for the level he has brought so many UP TO in the martial arts.
In the Rio Grande Valley there is Mike, who is the #1 who should always be sought out for traditional martial arts, in AUSTIN of course there is Mr Doss, Mr SantaMaria J, and very few others, in Phlugerville or Round Rock, I would definetly recommend the Dojo of the Coslets who began in .. another part of Texas; Harlingen where the Old School of Mike Sullenger 9th Dan is located another old timer but one of the true pioneers of Texas Blood Gut Era.
There are many who I disagreed with even Grandmasters from Korea, so I left Korean MA and went back to my mother form, which was Japanese ! due to not agreeing with the ranking that I saw being given out to individuals that had to read the Bible of the late Grandmaster and founder Choi... this black belt I was sent to, had to go by the book to do KATA and could not even make a fist ! much less do Kumite as it was taught to me... everyone that would enter my school would ask to kumite with this perticular Black Belt, which was a little embarrassing ! so, I had my disagreement with the Grandmaster of the Organizations which boasted well over 300,000 membership ! I went on my way.. and kept teaching my way, the old school way, those that came in my school no longer wished to kumite with those I had as black belts, but they were MY black belts., and not taught by those coming from another country with a 2nd dan and once here away from their mother land, they became grandmasters!! NOT ALL, but the 70's there was much of that going on, NOW there are those who are under 30 who were issued rank by AikiKai or Aikido America, as a third ...3rd dan and then go on the very next year to become Grandmasters of their own "so-called" organizations...just like the fast foods in the US they put out a lot of food, for the Mass, but in the arts, it just isnt the way it should be done. Those are the ones who dislike me, or Gary Alexander and a few others, they wont talk about Norris for fear of a LAWSUIT, but they will definetly cut down us who are not enfluential ! "I always say get on the mat" with one of my lesser grade students maybe one of my 2nd dans and lets see whats your real rank!!!!?
HANSHI CANTU'
Gm David G. Moore, 1Lt
Has distinquished himself many many times while in active service and now in the NG's by helping and leading his men during the Katrina Crisis ! He spent weeks helping those in need and spoke very little of it...what he saw and had to undergo was commendable to say the very least.
We at Tanaka are honoured by having friends and members such as 1LT David G. Moore Gm, as a friend and as one of our Senior Ranking in the arts ! We are proud to say that he is one of our own.
Hanshi
Master Moore has taught "Military, along with Law Enforcement all areas of MA, and small Weapons for Certification purposes, he is certified to do just that ! "Certification" which is unique and hard to get when it comes to being allowed to teach LAW ENFORCEMENT and MILITARY, this I know, due to my having been with the military for 16 years and having taught for many years for the military in all of Europe and Ft Hood, Texas... I also was Previliged to have been appointed as Battalion, instructor which is not easy to have. It has been told to me that he plans on opening a new and larger studio so that ALL will be able to learn from him that which was taught directly to him personally by the past founder O'Sensei Durant who passed some time ago while living with him in the Pasadena area, a suburb of Houston. It is also an idea that Master Moore and I join in opening a studio in the future so that we may both join forces in teaching both Jujutsu and Karatedo. Location will be announced after we discuss the idea ! |
We authorize only those instructors who have experience in Active tournament, teaching and hands on learning from their teachers ( masters ).
We teach..in "Professional, Family atmosphere" ., We openly invite all of you to try us out and be the judge your self:
1972-74 All Europe Light Heavyweight Champion Certifications Japanese Martial Arts.

RETIREMENT
What exactly does this it mean to be retired ? I used to always wonder if it were really going to be as I had always imagined?... WELL now I can say that it is GRAND and there is no feeling like it.
All the time to get where I am going and to do what I want !
I am "Retired" and darned happy that I am., and not to worry about what I am gonna do the next day.... Now martial arts and my website are a real hobby as it never could be befor-e! In the old days you al ways wondered if you were able to support yourself by teaching karate...Now, I -- actually stop worrying and have my website and fed- eration to help those that trully need the help., even promotions, the fees are merely for the cost of the paper that its printed on, and my trip expense to and from, how many can say that !
God Bless
HANSHI
